The critical appraisal process for our topic was very helpful in determining whether the articles we had chosen would have enough information to support our research paper. I felt as though I was able to go through the articles with a sense of understanding what exactly I was looking for, rather than just reading the article blindly through. The four papers that we chose to analyze had great information that validated the idea we had about the mode of infant delivery playing a critical role in the development of the infant’s gut microbiome. Although some articles did not have the strengths that some of the longitudinal studies had, the information they contained was still relevant to our research topic. The findings in these articles will help us in our future nursing practice primarily when educating a patient on how they can best promote the development of their child’s gut microbiome and ultimately their long-term health. My team member and I worked very well together to get the critical appraisals and synthesis of these article completed, and we came to the same conclusion that the information presented to us was helpful to our study. We worked in person and over zoom to complete this portion of the project; overall our team collaboration has been great and we haven’t come across any difficult situations this far in our project.
