Hiking on Vacation

HIKING ON VACATION

Vacations are meant to be relaxing. However, if you are a person that can’t stand being inactive, (like myself) you need to find things to do on vacation that satisfy you while still allowing you to relax a little bit! I find that going for hikes when on vacation is a great way to bond with the people you are with while getting a good workout in. I have been in Utah for vacation the past 5 days and I have gone on three hikes total just to prevent myself from going crazy. Thankfully, my boyfriend is also an avid hiker and he has gone with me on these hikes so I have been able to have a lot of fun while getting in a lot of mileage!

Day 1 Hiked Ogden Canyon Trail to overlook Ogden canyon! This hike was a total of 8 miles and was very simple to complete! Not much elevation gain but the view was spectacular at the top.

Day 2 – Hiked Box Elder Peak! We didn’t summit because of the snow at the top, but the 7 miles that we did hike was probably the hardest hike I have ever done. The grade of steepness was insane and we had to take many breaks to catch our breath and rehydrate.

Day 3 – Walked around the Grand Canyon! Something I have always wanted to see and could finally check off my bucket list.

Day 4 – Small 1 mile hike to see Weeping Rocks in Zion National Park!

Day 5 – Intense 5.4 mile hike to Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park. This hike had SO MANY switchbacks and once you are close to the top there are 1000 ft drops on both sides of you and the only thing you have to protect yourself from the wind is metal chains to act as handrails as you walk down a path that is approximately 3-4 feet wide of uneven terrain (only feels like the path is 1 foot wide at times). I may have cried when I got to the top of this hike (slight fear of heights), but the view was worth it and I definitely got a good workout in!

Making sure you find ways to stay active on vacation can help you feel like you are still getting stuff done while getting in that much needed relaxation!
